Center Programs Administration

The mission of the center programs administration is to provide support for the programs that are critical for the functioning of VCU Massey Cancer Center. Support is provided for the cancer center support grant (P30CA016059) including pre- and post-award management, CCSG-supported shared resources, membership management, individual research programs, community outreach and engagement, and cancer research career enhancement. Coordination and management is provided for center symposiums, retreats, seminars and external advisory board meetings. Coordination and management is also provided for the center intramural programs that include the pilot research grant program, the multi-investigator award program, the Tina L. Bachas nursing awards, and the ACS Institutional Research Grants.

Pre-Award Research Administration

The mission of pre-award research administration is to assist VCU Massey Cancer Center members with identifying appropriate grant application opportunities, completing and submitting grant application packages to the VCU Office of Sponsored Programs and external sponsors, and submitting annual and final reports to the external sponsors. A monthly newsletter identifies upcoming cancer-related, federal and non-federal sources of support. Proposal development includes budget development, completion of the administrative portions of the application, and integration of the narrative components into the final application. Support is provided for managing complex grant applications such as program project grants and training grants.

Scientific Writing

The mission of the scientific writing group is to provide VCU Massey Cancer Center members with writing and editing support. The scientific writers assist members with clinical trial protocols and related informed consent documents, grant proposals and scientific manuscripts. The support includes writing, substantive editing, copyediting, proofreading and bibliography generation via EndNote. Support is also provided for managing the development of clinical trial protocols and complex grant applications such as program project grants and training grants.
