Education & training for undergraduate students

In partnership with programs spanning across Virginia Commonwealth University, VCU Massey Cancer Center has several mechanisms for fostering cancer-focused training of undergraduate students, with special emphasis on training underrepresented minority students.

Bachelor’s degree program in clinical radiation sciences

The VCU School of Allied Health Professions’ Department of Radiation Sciences offers a B.S. in Clinical Radiation Sciences in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy and Radiography. It is Virginia’s only B.S. program with content specific to radiography and radiation therapy and the only nuclear medicine program in central Virginia.

Biology of Cancer I and II course

The VCU Department of Biology offers the Biology of Cancer I and II advanced-level undergraduate courses, which require students to perform a research project on cancer. Students in these courses work in the laboratories of Massey research members for a full semester or more, are trained in diverse aspects of cancer research and write a research report on their work.

Bridges to the Baccalaureate Dream-to-Goal Summer Research Program

The VCU Department of Biology offers the Bridges to the Baccalaureate Dream-to-Goal (DTG) Summer Research Program, which is designed for motivated community-college students who are interested in exploring research careers in the biomedical and behavioral sciences. This program equips students with hands-on laboratory skills, provides research experience and prepares students for success when transferring to a four-year college or university and beyond. Massey research members actively participate in training these students interested in cancer research.
